Autumn has finally arrived as the last tendrils of summer have released their grip here in Western North Carolina. Fall is a favorite season for many, and it means that it’s time to decorate and make your home nice and cozy for the season. Colors such as red, yellow, brown, orange, black, dark purple and others will be taking center stage as we settled in to the season. Whether you’re a decorating pro, or need a little help to get started, we’ve got you!

Let’s get started!

1. Warm colors and cozy accents. Just as the season’s fall colors, incorporating some the outdoors in your home can help to create a well decorated space where you can take advantage of all the fall colors and bring them inside. Think colors such as deep burgundy, orange, and muted browns and greens for accents and color schemes.

2. Autumn scents. Apple, pumpkin spice, cider, cinnamon and pine tend to be favorites for scenting your home for fall. Candles are your best bet, because not only do they emit incredible scents, but the soothing flicker of the candle flames can bring a sense of calm into your home and who doesn’t love candles?

3. Swap out your comforters or duvet covers with fall themed designs and colors. Are you feeling flannel? Plaid? Woodland scenes and creatures? Find duvet covers or bedspreads that have some of these themes in common for fall and give your bedroom a cozy seasonal facelift.

4. Layer up chairs and couches with cozy throws. Nothing says cooler weather like blankets and throws! Warm blankets will make your home extra cozy for when the weather is unpredictable and you aren’t quite ready to turn your heat on yet.

5. Pumpkins. It can’t be fall without pumpkins. Adding pumpkins, lanterns and warm lighting to your entryways and front door can set the stage for all things autumn and make a good first impression on your guests or neighbors walking by.

6. Fall florals and bouquets. Whether you have a floral arrangement that sits on your dining table, or on a dresser or nightstand, fall colored flowers can pack a punch and add a nice overall touch and ambience to your home.

7. Add throw pillows to your couches that are fall themed. The best way to do this is to buy pillows and seasonal pillowcases separately so they can be changed throughout the year and won’t take up half your closet or storage space with seasonal décor for the rest of the year. Plain couch pillows that give you the option to buy your favorite seasonal pillowcases are ideal to help vamp up your space and get it ready for fall, with less waste of storage space and continuous buying of seasonal pillows every 3 months.
