August 11, 2020, is National Real Estate Ethics Day. National Real Estate Ethics Day exists “to instill the highest levels of professional integrity, professional expertise, sound judgment, and discretion to all REALTORS around the world.”

REAL ESTATE ETHICS: A BRIEF HISTORY

Prior to 1900, there was no licensing of real estate professionals. In 1908, the National Association of Realtors was formed, which established a Code of Ethics in 1913 to adopt professional standards of conduct. The code was adopted with the Golden Rule as its theme.

The National Association of Realtors has established integrity and honor in the real estate profession, helped realtors stay informed about real estate issues, and encouraged fairness, competency, integrity, and moral conduct in all business relations.

CODE OF ETHICS TRAINING

NAR’s Board of Realtors requires that every Realtor complete a Code of Ethics training every three years. The current cycle deadline is Dec 31, 2020 to December 31, 2021.

You can complete your Code of Ethics triennial requirement for 2019-2021 by registering for the National Real Estate Ethics Day webinar, led by REALTOR, CEO, best-selling author and motivational speaker Leigh Brown.

The webinar will benefit the Real Estate Relief Foundation, a charitable foundation dedicated to providing housing-related assistance to victims of disasters.
